In 2006 we launched the Lords Taverners in Ireland as a Region of the UK Taverners.
You may recall attending a very successful launch event in the then Jurys Hotel which was addressed by George Hook, our President and Brian Wilson, our Chairman. Following this launch, over 300 members joined up to support the work of the Taverners in Ireland.
Since then we have incorporated an Irish Company to carry on the work of the Taverners in the Republic of Ireland and were delighted to obtain charitable status in here in Ireland in 2009 (CHY number: 18470).
We have also been active in the pursuit of our twin goals of supporting the development of cricket in Ireland and assisting charities which cater for disadvantaged youth.
Through our contacts with the UK Taverners we have provided financial support to both Cricket Ireland and the Leinster Cricket Union which has assisted them in their youth development programmes. We have since donated eleven minibuses to Irish based charities and plan to provide another bus this Christmas.
All of this activity has been made possible through the support of our members.
Of course times have been difficult over the last number of years and whilst the majority of our members have continued to support us, some have fallen away and we are anxious to bring them back into the fold. We are also very keen to attract new younger members especially those active in the cricket clubs of Ireland.
It is our intention to launch an active recruitment programme over the next year with some exciting new initiatives focused on widening our membership base and providing further opportunities for those interested in the work of the Taverners to become involved both as members and supporters of our work.
We have kept our membership subscription at the original 60 euro level and in order to reduce the level and cost of administration we have introduced direct debit as a method of payment and this form can be downloaded by clicking the link below. If you have not done so already we would encourage you to send your subscription to our treasurer to our Treasurer, Peter Lacy at 14, Park Lane, Sandymount, Dublin 4.
Finally on behalf of the membership committee, we would encourage you to act as a recruiting officer for the Taverners. If you know of anyone who has an interest in cricket and would like to support the charitable and development work of the Taverners, please do not hesitate to put them in touch with one of our committee members.
New members are always welcome!
